1 Killed In Tractor-Trailer Crash

TruckFront2

Semi trucks and tractor-trailers are huge vehicles that can cause serious damages. In fact, a collision with such a truck can cause fatality.

A 63-year-old man was killed after colliding with a semi truck in Pasco County. The fatal accident occurred on the morning of January 19 on US-301.

A tractor-trailer, driven by a 76-year-old man from Land O’ Lakes, was heading south on US-301, near the intersection of US-98. At the same time, a Zephyrhills man in a Ford F-250 was heading north on US-301. He was approaching the same intersection.

The driver of the Ford was attempting a left turn when he crossed into the path of the tractor-trailer. As a result, the pickup truck rotated and flipped. The impact caused the truck to collide with a street light pole. The crash caused the tractor-trailer to hit a pedestrian traffic signal at the corner of the intersection.

The driver of the Ford died at the accident scene. The driver of the tractor-trailer suffered minor injuries while his passenger, a 57-year-old woman, received serious injuries.

Causes of Truck Accidents

In this case, it appears as though the driver of the pickup truck caused the accident. Driver error is the most common cause of motor vehicle accidents. This includes drunk driving, speeding, and distracted driving. Here are some other common causes you should know about.

  • Improper loading. Improperly loaded or overloaded trucks can affect the vehicle’s stability and handling, increasing the risk of accidents. This is especially true during adverse road conditions or when the driver is trying to accomplish sudden maneuvers.
  • Truck drivers spend long hours on the road. This can lead to driver fatigue, which impairs reaction times and decision-making abilities and increases the risk of accidents.
  • Aggressive driving. Aggressive behaviors such as tailgating, weaving in and out of traffic, and road rage can increase the likelihood of accidents involving semi trucks.
  • Poor weather conditions. Adverse weather conditions such as rain, snow, ice, fog, and high winds can make driving conditions hazardous, increasing the likelihood of accidents involving semi trucks.
  • Road conditions. Poorly maintained roads, construction zones, uneven pavement, potholes, and other road hazards can contribute to accidents involving semi-trucks.
  • Blind spots. Semi-trucks have large blind spots, particularly on the sides and rear of the vehicle. Failure to check blind spots or improper lane changes can lead to accidents.
  • Inexperienced drivers. Inexperienced or inadequately trained drivers may lack the skills and knowledge needed to safely operate a semi truck, increasing the risk of accidents.
  • Equipment failure. Malfunctioning or poorly maintained equipment, including brakes, tires, steering mechanisms, and lights, can contribute to accidents.
