2 Killed, 2 Injured in Arcadia Crash
A car accident is no laughing matter. Such an incident can lead to catastrophic injuries and even death. Head-on crashes can be especially dangerous.
A recent head-on accident in Florida killed two people and injured two others. The fatal crash occurred just after midnight on October 12 in Arcadia.
A person in a pickup was driving south in the northbound lanes of U.S. 17, near Southwest Skates Street. They collided head-on with another pickup truck driven by a 33-year-old woman from Cape Coral.
Both drivers were killed in the crash. Two children, ages 5 and 10, were in the woman’s pickup truck. The 10-year-old suffered minor injuries, while the 5-year-old suffered serious injuries. Both were taken to Tampa General Hospital for treatment.
Understanding Head-on Crashes
A head-on crash occurs when the front ends of two vehicles collide. Due to the impact, these crashes are especially catastrophic, even at low speeds. In fact, these types of car accidents are the deadliest. Unfortunately, head-on crashes are increasing every year.
Why do these crashes occur? They tend to happen when one vehicle goes in the wrong direction. They may enter a road or freeway in the wrong direction. They may also engage in improper passing. If they are impatient and pass where it is not permitted or safe, they can easily collide with a vehicle that is traveling in the correct direction.
On a two-lane road, it’s common for drivers to be distracted or lose control. This can happen when a person is eating, texting, reading, dealing with kids or pets or talking to passengers. Some drivers lose control while speeding or driving reckless, causing them to cross the centerline. This can cause them to hit someone head on.
Driving while tired or intoxicated can also lead to head-on crashes. Either way, a person’s driving skills are impaired and this can cause them to suffer slower reaction times and even fall asleep. This can cause the driver to veer off the road or across the lanes, hitting another vehicle.
A head-on crash can cause various injuries. Many people experience whiplash due to their neck and head moving back and forth. Some experience other types of neck and back injuries. Spinal cord injuries and traumatic brain injuries are also common. A person involved in a crash can also suffer broken bones and burns. Many victims also suffer internal organ damage but don’t realize it until they get checked out by a doctor.
These injuries can be catastrophic. In some cases, it can take several months or even years to recover from such injuries. You may experience significant medical bills. On top of that, you may be unable to work for quite some time. It’s important that you receive compensation for these losses. Contact a personal injury lawyer to file a claim.
