Man Killed in Ocala Accident
Cars, trucks, motorcycles, bicycles, scooters and pedestrians are all obligated to share the road with each other. However, sometimes motorists are negligent or drive in a reckless manner. Serious accidents can happen in a split second. One wrong move can cause a serious or even fatal crash.
Unfortunately, this was recently the case in Florida. A man riding a motorized scooter was killed after he was hit by a vehicle driven by a teen. A 72-year-old man was riding the scooter, with a 34-year-old man on a bicycle riding behind him. The two were traveling on Southwest 90th Street and heading home after making a trip to a local gas station.
They were on the edge of the road when they were hit by a Gainesville teen driving a Scion X. Both men were thrown onto the shoulder of the road. The Scion veered off the road and landed in the bushes.
The men were taken to Ocala Regional Medical Center. The 72-year-old man later died. The 34-year-old man is currently in serious condition.
The 18-year-old driver was unharmed in the crash. However, marijuana and drug paraphernalia were found inside the vehicle. Results will be forthcoming. The teen has not been charged as of yet.
Crashes Involving Motorized and Electric Scooters
Accidents involving scooters are actually on the rise. Companies such as Bird and Lime have created scooters that appeal to teens and young adults who are looking to get from Point A to Point B quickly and easily. While these scooters can be fun, they are not without their risks.
These scooters are not easy to ride. They are less stable than bicycles and have a shorter wheelbase and smaller wheels. Because of these elements, any defect in the road or sidewalk can affect the operation of the scooter. This can cause a seemingly minor issue to lead to serious accidents.
Scooter accidents can lead to serious injuries. They can cause anything from minor scrapes to life-threatening injuries. Many victims have suffered fractures, head injuries, neck injuries, internal bleeding, broken jaws and facial injuries. Some accidents have even led to fatality. Those who use these scooters are supposed to wear helmets by law, but many do not.
While the motorized scooter that the victim rode in this case is different from a Lime or Bird scooter, it is important for people to understand the risks of accidents and injuries.
Seek Help for Your Accident Case
Pedestrians and those on scooters and bicycles are susceptible to injury accidents due to their smaller size and the lower levels of protection that have. They can suffer broken bones, head trauma, life-threatening injuries, paralysis and even death.
A crash on the road involving a larger vehicle can significantly change a person’s life and lead to numerous damages. If you or a loved one has been involved in a pedestrian accident, seek legal help. Seek legal help from the Dade City personal injury attorneys at Madonna Law Group.
