Elderly Man in Florida Arrested for Selling Pounds of Marijuana Daily

Marijuana2

There’s a lot of money to be made in the marijuana industry. While selling it on the streets can be lucrative financially, it is nevertheless against the law. Even possession of marijuana can be a criminal offense. An elderly man in Florida found out the hard way when he was arrested for selling multiple pounds of the drug daily.

The 75-year-old man from Floral City was arrested on January 15 after law enforcement officials discovered the man was selling pounds of marijuana on a daily basis. Police served a search warrant at the man’s home and found numerous items of interest, including more than one pound of marijuana, $25,000 in cash and ammunition for a 20-gauge shotgun. They also found a barn on the property. Inside was drug distribution equipment and 1 ½ pounds of marijuana.

Because of the large amount of cash found, police believe the man was selling marijuana on a daily basis. The man faces multiple charges, including possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of ammunition by a convicted felon.

Police are especially concerned about the illegal drug activity. Many batches of marijuana in Florida are laced with fentanyl, which is a synthetic opiate. Ingestion of fentanyl can be deadly, which is why it is a growing concern in the state.

Fentanyl Use a Growing Trend

Fentanyl use is being seen more in emergency rooms across the United States. Not only can it be found in marijuana, but other street drugs such as heroin and cocaine as well. Physicians are seeing a high number of overdoses due to patients taking multiple drugs. The problem is that many patients are not even aware that their drugs are being laced with fentanyl.

Many dealers are lacing drugs with fentanyl to make them even more addictive. This causes the user to crave that drug and seek out the same dealer, leading to increased profits for the dealer.

Fentanyl use can be fatal. As a result, emergency rooms are seeing high numbers of drug overdoses. This is creating challenges for physicians, who want to prevent overdoses by encouraging the patients to seek treatment. Unfortunately, many patients are not ready for treatment, causing the cycle to continue. The patient may not be so lucky next time. They could become a statistic, overdosing and dying.
