1 Killed After Car Loses Control, Hits Tree

Automobiles can go very fast. If a driver is not aware of what is going on, they can easily collide with another object.
This was recently the case in Pasco County and it sadly led to a fatality. The crash occurred on the morning of April 13 on Interstate 75.
A Toyota Camry, driven by a 30-year-old Tampa man, was heading south on I-75 in Pasco County in the early morning hours. The driver passed another vehicle south of State Road 52 and swerved to avoid a collision.
That was when the driver lost control of the Camry. The vehicle rotated to the shoulder of the highway and hit a tree. The passenger, a 28-year-old Tampa woman, died at the accident scene.
The relationship between the driver and passenger is unknown. The crash is still under investigation.
Why Do Drivers Lose Control?
Loss of control can happen for various reasons, such as the following:
- Driving above the speed limit or too fast for road conditions reduces the time a driver has to react to hazards, curves, or sudden stops. High speeds also make it more difficult to steer and control the vehicle, especially on tight turns or uneven surfaces. The faster a car moves, the longer it takes to stop, increasing the likelihood of losing traction or skidding.
- Poor weather conditions. Rain, snow, sleet, ice, and fog can significantly impact visibility and traction. Wet or icy roads make tires more likely to slip, particularly during sudden maneuvers. Reduced visibility from fog or heavy rain can also delay reactions to hazards.
- Distracted driving. Anything that diverts a driver’s attention from the road, such as texting, eating, using a GPS, or adjusting the radio, can lead to overcorrections or delayed responses. Even a second of distraction can mean missing a sharp curve or swerving too late to avoid an obstacle, resulting in a loss of control. It’s a leading cause of single-vehicle accidents.
- Driver error. Poor driving decisions or inexperience can cause loss of control. Common mistakes include oversteering or understeering in a turn, improper use of brakes, and panicking in emergencies. Inexperienced drivers may not know how to recover from a slide or may overcorrect, worsening the situation.
- Driving under the influence. Alcohol and drugs impair coordination, judgment, and reaction time. Impaired drivers are more likely to make risky decisions, misjudge speed and distance, or fall asleep behind the wheel. Even small amounts of alcohol can affect the ability to maintain control of the vehicle.
