Fire Truck Involved In Crash While En Route To Deadly Accident

After a car accident, you may be waiting for a fire truck or other first responder to get to you and provide medical attention. However, the irony of the situation is that these emergency vehicles can also get into accidents. This can cause delays and added stress.
This recently happened in Pasco County. A firefighter on his way to a fatal crash in Pasco County when himself got into a car accident. He suffered minor injuries in the crash, which occurred on the evening of February 5.
The 35-year-old firefighter was heading south on Little Road in a Pasco County fire truck. He had lights and sirens on as he made his way toward a crash. As he turned left onto 9426 Little Road, a 53-year-old Spring Hill man collided with the fire truck. The man was traveling on Little Road at a high rate of speed.
The Spring Hill man suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a local hospital for medical treatment. The firefighter suffered minor injuries in the crash. He did not seek medical treatment.
The firefighter was en route to an accident in which a Dodge Ram hit a Toyota 4Runner at high speeds. The impact caused the Dodge Ram to overturn and catch fire. The driver and a passenger in the Toyota were killed in the accident. The driver of the Dodge Ram and another passenger in the Toyota were seriously injured and taken to a local hospital for medical treatment.
How to React Around Emergency Responders
When driving near emergency responders, you need to drive safely. Here’s how to handle different situations:
- When you see emergency vehicles with lights and sirens. If you’re on a two-way road, safely move to the right shoulder and stop. When on a multi-lane road, move to the rightmost lane and stop if safe. If you are stopped at an Intersection, stay put and let them navigate around you.
- When approaching a scene with emergency responders. Reduce your speed and be prepared for sudden stops. If possible, change lanes away from the emergency scene. Do not block driveways or access points, as emergency vehicles may need to enter or exit quickly.
- If an emergency vehicle is behind you in traffic. Move to the far right and let them pass. Keep a steady pace and avoid sudden braking. Stay at least 500 feet behind an emergency vehicle in motion.
- In heavy traffic. Try to create space. Even if stopped, move slightly to open a path.
