Dating While Divorcing Becoming More Common

familylaw

After filing for divorce, people may be concerned about following the rules, especially when it comes to finding new relationships. After being married for so long, they may be eager to jump into the dating pool again. They may desire a partnership, just not with the person they are married to.

While some people wait years to date again, some waste no time finding a new love. In fact, some start dating before their divorce is even finalized. Some are downloading dating apps and going on dates just a few weeks or months after filing the divorce paperwork.

Is this too soon? Can doing so affect your divorce? Is it better to wait?

Not necessarily. While the traditional line of thinking was to wait until the divorce was finalized before starting dating again, there are no clear-cut rules in this area. People move on at different speeds. Take, for example, pop star Miley Cyrus. In August, Cyrus announced her divorce from actor Chris Hemsworth. On the same day, pictures surfaced of her kissing another woman. A month later, she moved on with singer Cody Simpson.

Many people commented on the super-quick timing of these rebound relationships. It can also cause pause for the new love interests of the ones who have just divorced. If the divorce has not yet been finalized, the new love may wonder if the person is going back to their spouse. This is especially true if children are involved. Many couples stay together for the kids, to create a stable environment.

The truth is that love can be risky, no matter what stage you are at in life. Whether you are single, going through a divorce, finalizing a divorce or widowed, when you are in a relationship, you are putting yourself out there emotionally.

Dating while divorcing was once frowned upon, but now it is becoming more commonplace. After being in a difficult marriage for so long, people tend to know what they want and what they don’t want in their next relationship. They don’t need to wait years to discover themselves.

In fact, dating so soon can be liberating. It can help a person get emotional support during a difficult time. It can give a person reassurance that the marriage they were in was not a normal relationship, and now they can explore the type of relationship they want.

People just need to make sure that they are in no way getting back together with their spouse. Otherwise, this could lead to an affair.
