Motorcycle Passenger Dies In Crash

Motorcycles offer fun and freedom, especially in Florida, where the weather is gorgeous. Riding a motorcycle, however, is not always safe. Drivers of other vehicles often cannot see much-smaller motorcycles. This means that motorcycles are often involved in serious accidents and those on the bike are killed.

This was the case for a 27-year-old Miami woman who was thrown from a motorcycle after a crash. The fatal motorcycle crash happened on the evening of November 21 at the intersection of 168th Avenue and Pines Boulevard in Pembroke Pines. A 71-year-old man driving a Lincoln SUV turned into the path of a motorcycle. This caused the motorcycle to hit the vehicle.

The woman, a passenger on the motorcycle, was thrown from the bike and died from her injuries. The driver of the bike, a 32-year-old man, was also thrown and seriously injured. He is currently at Memorial Regional Hospital in the intensive care unit. The driver of the SUV was not harmed in the crash.

It is possible that the SUV driver could face criminal charges for causing the accident. The crash is still under investigation.

Avoiding Motorcycle Accidents

Motorcycle crashes are unfortunate realities in today’s society. Motorcycles are small and hard for other motorists to see. That’s why motorcycle riders need to do their part to reduce the risk of crashes.

The first place to start is with safety gear. Helmets and jackets not only protect you in the event of a crash, but they can help keep accidents from happening in the first place. By wearing bright colors, you can help others see you more easily. You can also keep your headlights on at all times to aid in visibility.

Motorcycle riders also need to develop a sixth sense. You have to get a feel for when an accident might occur and plan accordingly. Stay out of the blind spots of other vehicles. Be especially careful at intersections and areas where there are gaps in traffic. These are places where motorists are likely to turn in front of you. Slow down and be prepared to take evasive action if necessary.

It’s common for cars to rear-end motorcycles. They may not see your motorcycle until it is too late, and you end up in a fender bender. When stopped at an intersection, see what’s coming up behind you. Flash your brake lights to show others that you are stopped. Keep your bike in gear and look for ways to make a quick escape if it looks like a car won’t stop in time.
