2 Killed, 2 Injured in St. Petersburg Motorcycle Crash

Many people ride motorcycles in Florida because of the beautiful weather. While these bikes are fun to ride, they are also dangerous – but it’s not always the motorcycle rider’s fault. Sometimes it’s another motorist who causes serious and even fatal motorcycle accidents.

Two people were killed and two others were seriously injured in a motorcycle crash in St. Petersburg. The fatal accident occurred on the morning of March 5 on 4th Street South.

A 28-year-old woman was driving a Chevrolet Trailblazer on 4th Street South. She was attempting to turn left onto Roser Park Drive South when she crashed into a Suzuki motorcycle coming in the opposite direction. The motorcycle collided with the passenger side of the Chevrolet. The motorcycle rider died at the accident scene. He was identified as a 33-year-old man from St. Petersburg.

The driver of the Chevrolet, a 28-year-old woman, was taken to Bayfront Health hospital, where she is currently in stable condition. A passenger, a 34-year-old woman, was also taken to Bayfront Health, but she later died. Another passenger, a 49-year-old woman, is hospitalized in critical condition. The accident is under investigation.

Left Turns in Front of Motorcycles

If motorcyclists didn’t have to worry about other drivers, riding a motorcycle would be much safer. However, many motorists don’t understand the many dangers that motorcycle riders face.

One of them is left turn accidents. This is one of the top causes of motorcycle crashes. Making a left turn is much more dangerous than making a right turn.

This is because it is harder for motorists to see motorcycles than other vehicles. This is due to a difference in depth perception. A typical driver may see thousands of vehicles a day. The number of motorcycles they see, however, is far less. They may see fewer than 10 motorcycles a day, so they’re not used to seeing these much smaller bikes. Motorcycles are more likely to blend in with their surroundings. Plus, it is hard to judge their speed. A driver may think that a motorcycle is going slower than it really is, causing a major crash.

Distractions are also common and may contribute to left turn accidents. Drivers are often distracted by their cell phones and this can lead to fatal motorcycle crashes. When a motorist is distracted, this can be deadly for a motorcycle rider. After all, the bigger vehicle always wins, so the motorcycle is almost always at a disadvantage unless it collides with a bicycle or pedestrian.
